Insulin

Insulin is a peptide hormone with approximate molecular weight of 5,800 daltons. Secreted from b cells of the islet of Langerhans in the pancreas, insulin acts to reduce the blood sugar level. Since the blood insulin level reflects the function of b cells, insulin has been widely used as an important diagnostic tool for diabetes mellitus.
