Research Technician II

Sekisui Diagnostics PEI Inc., has an exciting job opportunity for a Research Technician II. This is a temporary contract (6 months) position located in our Charlottetown location. 

Scope: 

The Research Technician II will be responsible for carrying out experiments and analytical procedures under general supervision. 

Responsibilities:

Conduct laboratory experiments and analytical procedures, following approved protocols and under general supervision of team leader and more experienced colleagues. 
Safely prepare, handle, and dispose of biological samples used for analytical test procedures.
May assist with writing plans, reports, data entry, and analysis. 
May perform complex analytical procedures using established techniques. 
May assist in development of new experimental techniques under direction of supervisor or colleagues.
In consultation with supervisor or colleagues, may identify significant findings relevant to project objectives.
May supervise or train lower level employees in performing routine established procedures. 

Education/Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with BSc / diploma, or higher, in a scientific discipline and with relevant work experience.    
Demonstrated ability to understand and follow technical instructions, and safely handle chemical and biological samples is highly desirable.   

Skills / Pre-requisites:

Working knowledge of scientific principles and techniques in clinical chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, or biology. 
Experience in a laboratory environment.
Must be able to function well in a team environment, and to co-ordinate activities with co-workers.
Must have excellent organizational skills, pay attention to detail, and be able to accurately record tasks, activities, and results.
Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and ready to learn other programs as needed.
Experience with Kaizen/Lean systems an asset.
